What Has This World Come To?

Dear Diary,
What has happened to the world that we live in. Can nobody live in peace and comfort? Can nobody express their opinions freely? Is this the way that we shall have to live forever? I hope not. Let me tell you why I thought these things.

A few days ago, I was at my house. I was at my house. My family and I were worried because my father was away at the signing of the Oath of Allegiance. The bad thing about that was that my father wasn't going to sign it. He had to go because they forced everyone to. Who are they, you may ask? "They" are the Patriots. They think that they are so noble because they support the Thirteen Colonies. Well the members of my family know that they are noble because we support the British. We can't both be noble but be enemies. Which one of us is noble? There are many different ways to look at this. Now, here's the problem. My family would like to leave this as it is so that everybody can keep their opinion but still live in peace.

Today, we forgot all about that peaceful keeping of opinions. It's all the Patriots fault. They are such control freaks. My father tried to explain that he did not agree with their Oath, but when they heard it, they absolutely lost it. Then they went berserk. They tied him up, put him on a cart, covered him in tar and feathers, and paraded him into town. It was terrible.

Father says that we're going to have to leave. We're actually going tomorrow. We can only carry what we can fit in these small sacks. I'll talk to you later if I can take you.

- Wish me the best,
                       Jonathan
