Dear Diary,
Some people say that I'm too old to be writing to you, but I just wanted to tell you some amazing news. I just recently became the leader of the First Nations. This is amazing. I never expected it. Well maybe a little. Anyways, I made a sort of pact with the First Nations so now we are being defended from the settlers. These British won't just leave us alone. They tried to conquer our land so we had to fight back. Now some of their forts belong to me. Take that Brits! Even though we beat the British, we have a new enemy. Winter. It's going to be very bad this year and we're going to have to leave our land. So now we have to make a treaty with the people we conquered. It's so annoying. On another note, I sent a spy over to the British side and they were talking about issuing something called a royal proclamation. What does that even mean? Will someone please explain this to me?
- Sincerely,
Pontinac - First Nations Leader

ReplyDeleteYou are never too old to write a diary...
ReplyDeleteAnyways...the royal proclamation...let me think...Oh right. Here is the letter sent from the British and King George (Did you not get the letter? Hmm...maybe I missed your household):
Dear fellow North American citizens,
I would like to inform you that I have issued a 'Royal Proclamation' to organize the territories that had been gained by us, British, in the Treaty of Paris:
British law was to be established in the colonies
The governor was to organize a general assembly, which could include French Catholics, to help make laws for the colony
A large area of land in the West was to be reserved for First Nations. Only I, King George III, would be allowed to negotiate to obtain these territories. Any non-First Nations people already living there would have to leave.
Anyone wanting to trade with the First Nations needed a license from the governor of their colony.
Sincerely,
King George III and the British
Well, that's it
